• The signal a sensor produces can be one of two types:
  Discrete sensors are simple on/off sensors, performing
  a similar function to a standard light switch.
  The light is on or it is off, no middle ground.

  Analog sensors provide a continuously variable output signal,
  similar to that of a light dimmer. Here, the light can be on or off,
  but can also be at any level between the two extremes.
